OtO Photonics' HummingBird (HB) series are folded-cavity Czerny-Turner spectrometers offering the performance benefits of classic C-T cavity designs in a significantly more compact package.
HummingBird measures just 83 x 75.5 x 26.75mm³ (<168cm³) and yet the optical bench provides excellent rigidity, ensuring a platform with industry-leading thermal, humidity, shock and vibration stability.
Despite its compact form-factor HummingBird sacrifices none of the performance of OtO's SmartEngine spectrometers and offers high optical resolution, high sensitivity, low stray light, and fast response.
At launch Hummingbird is offered with a choice of two high performance 2048-pixel sensors detailed below:-
HB2034: Hamamatsu S11639 Fast-exposure CMOS; Dynamic Range = 1600, SNR = 330
HB2054: Hamamatsu S11510 Back-thinned NIR-enhanced CCD; Dynamic Range = 5000, SNR = 500
OtO have designed HummingBird to offer the same configurability of grating and slit as their SmartEngine spectrometers enabling optimisation of spectral bandwidth, resolution and sensitivity. OtO's 6 standard operating ranges for HummingBird are:-
FUVA: Operating range of 180-850nm using 500grooves/mm grating blazed at 330nm
FUVN: Operating range of 180-1100nm using 300grooves/mm grating blazed at 300nm
VNIRD: Operating range of 350-1020nm using 500grooves/mm grating blazed at 565nm
NIR1: Operating range of 790-1010nm using 1200grooves/mm grating blazed at 850nm
NIR4R: Operating range of 790-1090nm using 1000grooves/mm grating blazed at 900nm
In addition to these standard operating ranges customers can specify their own operating "bandwidth" within the "Factory Selectable Band" specifed in the table below. For example, the standard 1200/850 grating has a 220nm bandwidth which can be factory set within a 180-1010nm range, i.e. 180-400nm, 300-550nm, 790-1010nm etc.
For each grating we show the achievable Resolution over the stated Spectral Bandwidth - thus enabling the combination of Grating and Slit to be identified.
Groove Density (g/mm) | Optimum Efficiency Wavelength | Bandwidth | Factory Selectable Band (nm) | Resolution (nm) Slit Size
10µm | 25µm | 50µm | 100µm | 200µm | 300µm

Communication with HB-Series spectrometers is via high speed (480Mbps) USB2.0 or 6 user-programmable digital I/Os and the inclusion of OtO's SpectraSmart software ensures that HummingBird can be up-and-running within minutes whilst the availability of a Software Development Kit for Windows and example code for Linux facilitates integration into a broad range of applications.
HummingBird is also offered with a choice of optical input - the standard format is a SMA-905 connector with options for a Lens Tube or no SMA.
